Environmental Restoration FAQ's
Environmental restoration is the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed by human activity or natural processes. The main focus of environmental restoration is to improve the biological diversity, to increase the populations and distribution of rare and threatened species and to contribute to the well being and sustainability of human life.
Bowantz Bushfire & Environmental are capable of working in remote locations including locations only accessible by boat or 4WD. Our staff are experienced in working within endangered environmental communities and delivering results within sensitive riparian environments.
Bowantz Bushfire and Environmental has successfully worked to deliver a broad range of weed control and vegetation management projects for clients predominantly located across the Illawarra, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly regions of NSW.
We specialise in projects that are complex and require high skill levels, we are known for our ability to get the desired results on time, the first time.
Relevant Project Experience
Most recently we have been working on regionally significant river corridor weed management projects along the Bargo River, Stonequarry Creek and Nepean River within the Wollondilly Local Government Area.
We have been engaged by the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) to undertake strategic weed control in high priority catchment areas for over seven years.
Weed Control FAQ's
Our experienced and qualified staff are capable of conducting weed control works using a number of spraying methods in order to deliver effective and responsible chemical weed control in a variety of situations and locations. We use a combination of high-volume spray units, backpack sprayers, low volume gas gun/splatter packs, low impact tree injectors and direct application methods.
The introduction of plants to Australia has provided many benefits to society over the years. The introductions have supplied food, shelter, medicines and aesthetic enjoyment. But these benefits have often been accompanied by costs, particularly when the plant invades agricultural and natural ecosystems beyond its intended area. These invasions have many negative impacts on agriculture, the environment, society and the economy.
We are experts at removing woody weed infestations and can deliver the required maintenance to prevent re-infestation. Our team are very experienced and qualified chainsaw operators but we do not remove large trees in residential situations.
Rehabilitation & Re-Vegetation
We are highly skilled and experienced in the design, planning and implementation of revegetation and degraded lands rehabilitation projects.

Relevant Project Experience
- Riparian – creek and river revegetation using long stem techniques.
- Sensitive and important ecological areas such as Endangered Ecological Communities and Threatened Species recovery programs.
- Restoration programs for Disturbed and Degraded landscapes
Rehabilitation & Re-Vegetation FAQ's

Erosion & Sediment Control & Stream & Waterway Engineering FAQ's
Erosion is the physical process in which earthen materials are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water
The effects of soil erosion go beyond the loss of fertile land. It has led to increased pollution and sedimentation in streams and rivers, clogging these waterways and causing declines in fish and other species. And degraded lands are also often less able to hold onto water, which can worsen flooding.
Bowantz has been undertaking erosion and sediment control projects for over 20 years with a broad knowledge of hydrodynamics and a practical science-based approach that can be tailored to suit any budget. Our team are specialists in difficult areas where we are able to think outside the box and utilise materials on site when access does not allow for importation of external goods. Services include; planting of bank stabilizing plants, installation of sediment fences & hydro-mulching.
Stream and waterway engineering have always been a large component of our core business. Bowantz has been engaged by government departments and private land holders for over 20 years to design and implement solutions for their stream and waterway engineering problems. Bowantz analyse and assess all sites and projects on their own merit and come up with practical science-based solutions to suit your
Habitat Protection & Pest Control
Why is habitat protection and pest control important?
Australia has lost 75% of its rainforests and nearly 50% of all forests in the last 200 years, and our high rate of species extinctions is the result. When habitats aren’t managed for conservation, invasive weeds and feral animals can cause huge problems.
The protection of habitat and control of pest species helps preserve biodiversity which in turn maintains a healthy ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems clean our water, purify our air, maintain our soil, regulate the climate, recycle nutrients and provide us with food. They provide raw materials and resources for medicines and other purposes. They are at the foundation of all civilisation and sustain our economies.
Habitat Protection and Nesting / Habitat Boxes
Our team are very experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to habitat protection and installation for our native fauna. Bowantz understands the specific requirements for the species of fauna we are trying to accommodate and install nesting / habitat boxes in the perfect locations to encourage our fragile fauna into making this location their new home. Bowantz has installed well over 500 habitat / nesting boxes over the past 10 years with a large amount of them being in the recent fire affected areas to help the local ecosystems recover.
Vertebrate Pest Control
Bowantz staff are trained and accredited in vertebrate pest control with several staff members having over 20 years experience in the industry. From rabbits to deer our experienced staff members have the skill sets required to get the job done.
